Summer with Theatre Aspen School enhances creative impulses, strengthens collaborative skills, builds confidence, and MUCH more. It empowers students of all ages to meet life head-on wherever they go, and in whatever circumstances they find themselves, whether on stage, in the classroom, the workplace or beyond.

And on top of it all…it’s FUN!

TAS Summer Experience

At TAS young actors have the opportunity to explore all different areas of theatre while building their confidence, empathy, and ability to collaborate. Encouraging students to take risks, try something new, and use their unique voice, TAS is a safe space for all students at all skill levels. 

NEW: A TAS Summer Home

This summer all of our summer programs* will be held on the beautiful Aspen Community School campus in Woody Creek! 

NEW: Optional Bus Transportation

You can opt to have your student ride our bus to and from Aspen Community School for a nonimal weekly fee, which can be added during registration. Pick-up and drop off include the Red Brick, AABC, and Intercept Lot.

NEW: Hours that Accomodate your Schedule!

Our regular program hours are now 9am to 4pm. If you include optional bus transportation, we've got your work day covered with quality instruction and summer fun for your children.

NEW: Added Outdoor Programming

Our summer programs cover three to four areas of theatre during each program and includes both structured and unstructured outdoor time, rounding out the Roaring Fork Valley philosophy of living: Mind, Body, & Spirit.

We believe students can create great theatre. We also believe students should SEE great theatre! All programs** include a voucher to redeem for one student ticket for Godspell ​or ​Mary Poppins, Jr. at the Hurst Theatre. Don’t miss this opportunity to be INSPIRED!

Performance Programs

Summer Conservatory: Mary Poppins
Students entering Seventh through Twelfth Grade, by audition only
Dates: July 2 - August 3 (no class on July 4th)
    Performances (6) on July 25, 26 and August 2, 3, and 5 (2x) at the Hurst Theatre
Times: 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday

This year the Conservatory production plays in the Hurst Theatre bringing the joy and magic of Mary Poppins to a whole new generation of young audiences in this fully-produced one-act (Jr.) version of the Tony-Award(™)-winning Broadway musical. In addition to rehearsal and performances, students will receive daily training in dance, voice and acting with industry professionals, taking their skills to a whole new level. Conservatory Students will also attend the main stage performance of Ragtime, and attend a talkback with actors in the show.

NEW: Mary Poppins will play for 6 performances in the Hurst Theatre, meeting the needs of our young children and family audiences.

Participation is competitive and by audition only. Submit a video audition for acceptance to the program starting January 30th. Casting auditions will take place Saturday, June 30

Musical Theatre Workshop: Madagascar, a musical adventure!
Students entering 3rd through 6th grade
Dates: July 2-27 (no class on July 4th)
    Performances on July 26, 27, and 28 at the Black Box Theatre in Aspen
NEW:​Times: 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday

Take a walk on the Wild side this summer in Madagascar, a Musical Adventure! Fresh from the New York Zoo, Marty, Alex, Gloria, and Melman get lost on the island off the coast of mainland Africa. They’ll need all the help they can get to return home, whether it comes from friendly dancing lemurs or sly penguins.

NEW: In addition to fully-staged performances in the Black Box Theatre, you’ll take classes in acting, singing, dance, and design to boost your abilities and confidence. Also, the program goes Monday through Friday

NEW! Triple Threat Training
Students entering Seventh through Twelfth Grade
Dates: July 2-20 (no class on July 4th)
    Performance Date: Saturday, July 21, evening; Wheeler Opera House - Lobby
Times: 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday

Are you ready to take it to the next level? Triple Threat Training will push you to expand your horizons with rigorous Master classes from Broadway and industry professionals in dance, voice and acting. Under the guidance of the director, work as an ensemble to create a workshop-style Cabaret to perform for friends, family and the public.

Step in Time!

Kick your heels up and step in time as we kick off a magical summer in our first week. Learn “Step in Time” from this summer’s Theatre for Young Audiences show, Mary Poppins and fly a kite of your own creation in our design section! Make new friends as you explore the magical world of theatre and share what you’ve learned with friends and family in an end-of-week showcase!

Shadow Worlds
Puppetry | Singing | Drama Games | Outdoor Team Time
June 18-22
9am-4pm, M-F

Learn the power of puppetry and song to tell amazing stories! This week, fun drama games, outdoor team-building activities will help build your confidence and forge new friendships. Then, you’ll learn the classic song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” while making and using shadow puppets to tell an original story of the deep, dark jungle in the end-of-week showcase for family and friends. Take your puppets home to continue the adventures!

You Got to Move It, Move It!
Broadway and Hip Hop Dance | Drama Games | Outdoor Team Time
June 25-29*
9am-4pm, M-F

You won’t be able to stop moving it in this program with a double dose of dance! Learn two styles of dance, Broadway and Hip Hop, and have a blast playing drama games all while learning to express yourself through different types of performance. At the end of the week you’ll dance to “You Got to Move It Move It” from Madagascar and “Very Soft Shoes” from Broadway’s Once Upon a Mattress in a showcase for friends and family.

Magic Town
Drama Games | Magic | Design | Outdoor Team Time

It’s a world of illusions in Magic Town. You’ll learn how to wow the audience as an actor and magician while flexing your imagination muscles and gaining confidence through drama games and ensemble-building activities outdoors. You’ll create your own world of illusions, building a set for your end-of-week magic show for friends and family!

The Great Penguin Escape!
Dance | Singing | Drama Games | Outdoor Team Time | Performance Opportunity
July 16-20
9am-4pm, M-F

Get ready for adventure! The Penguins of Madagascar have a plan to escape, but they’ll need your help - plus the help of some fun-loving Lemurs who just like to Move It! Sing, dance and act in a showcase for your family. Join this program and you get to appear the following week in our fully-staged Musical Theatre Workshop production of Madagascar - a Musical Adventure

The price of this program INCLUDES a $50 fee for the performance opportunity: Students in this program will get to sing their song in a fully-staged performance of the Musical Theatre Workshop production of Madgascar, a Musical Adventure during the week of July 23-27. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, the student must attend the dress rehearsal of the play on July 25 (Morning; Time TBD) and may then appear on stage in costume with the cast to sing their song in front of an audience in one or more performances July 26-28. Students will get to keep a costume piece that they wear in the show!

Light up the World!

Let your light shine onstage and off! Have a blast while learning “Light of the World” from Stephen Schwartz’ Godspell, and dance to go with it. Drama games will help you build your own stories and express them with your powerful, unique voice. Outdoor team-building time will help you forge new friendships and build confidence. At the end of the week you’ll share your light with friends and family in an end-of-week showcase!

Heroes & Villains
Drama Games | Character Movement | Design | Outdoor Team Time
July 30-August 3
9am-4pm, M-F

Are you a hero, a villain, or perhaps a little bit of both? Explore different types of character creation using your body, voice, and masks in this week’s character week. Work together to create a band of colorful misfits and larger than life masks that will be used to tell your unique story in an end-of-week showcase for friends and family.

Broadway Bootcamp Jr: Gettin’ Ready
Broadway Dance | Improv | Voice | Design
June 11-15

Get ready to laugh, dance and sing your way through this week-long musical theatre immersion featuring music from famous Broadway musicals such as Pippin and Ragtime. You will learn the fundamentals of performance, stretch your acting muscles, and build your star power all while making new friends and having a blast! Cap off the week with a showcase for friends and family performing musical numbers in a costume of your creation!

Broadway Bootcamp: Stage & Screen
Scene Acting | Stage Combat | Physical Characterization | Acting for Film

Ever wondered how your favorite actors do what they do? Now is your chance to discover the storytelling skills of the stars. Give your audience an unforgettable performance through techniques the acting masters use, whether in dialogue, physical characterization, stage combat, or on-camera acting. Broadway Bootcamp: Dancing Through Life

Give yourself a leg up in this bootcamp focused on helping you become a better singer, dancer and actor. With songs from Wicked, Fame and more, you’ll learn techniques that will serve you well in any performance and give you greater confidence no matter where you are! Great for musical theatre performers, as well as non-musical actors looking to grow their skill set in a fun, supportive environment. Movie Star Camp

EMMY’S: Students entering 3rd through 6th Grade

Experience the fun of starring in a movie! Students in the EMMY class will learn the art of on-camera acting, improvisational acting, and script-writing while starring in a short professionally-produced movie. Developed by a producer who has worked for Disney and Nickelodeon, this summer we focus on understanding healthy conflicts that exist between each character in your movie. Students develop acting skills through acting games and rehearsals for their upcoming movie scenes. On Sunday, students are treated to a VIP, red-carpet movie premiere with their family at the Isis in Aspen. MOVIE STAR CAMP™ is designed to help young actors discover new skills while creating imaginative family movies!

OSCARS: Students entering 7th through 12th Grade

Get ready to craft an OSCAR™-worthy performance! Students in the OSCAR class will learn the art of on-camera acting, improvisational acting, and script-writing while starring in a short professionally-produced movie. In addition, the OSCAR class is given an opportunity to write, storyboard, and direct their own class movie. Throughout rehearsals, students will explore the conflict in the heart of their scene, adding an intensity that will be felt on and off the screen. On Sunday, students are treated to a VIP, red-carpet movie premiere with their family at the Isis in Aspen. MOVIE STAR CAMP™ is designed to help young actors discover new skills while creating imaginative family movies!

Broadway Dreams: The Hits - Reimagined!

Join us as we host the Broadway Dreams weeklong theatre intensive—a program of strenuous professional training, with sessions in across the country. Throughout the week, the international student pool employs the classroom to prepare for a formal showcase in which they perform alongside celebrated talents. Intensives are available in Acting for Stage and Film or Musical Theatre, with a focus on acting, vocal performance, and dance.

In addition to technical skills training with Broadway’s finest, students are empowered with leadership and teamwork building skills that are applicable to a life in and outside of the performing arts, and their respective confidence levels are enhanced by a strong sense of community — the impact of which extends far beyond the week.
