Juniors Half Day #1: Goodnight, Gorillas!
June 12-16 – Puppets and Story Drama

Description: The Zookeeper’s animals love him so much, they like to steal his keys and follow him home at night! How can he get them to stay in the zoo? Students will use puppets and teacher-led storytelling to explore how they might dramatize a tale based on the beloved children’s book, Goodnight Gorilla!

Time: 9AM-12PM; M-F

Juniors Half Day #2: Brown Bear, Brown Bear
June 26-30 –  Masks and Creative Dramatics

Description: Students will use their bodies, voices and masks that they help create to tell stories based in the world of Eric Carle’s Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Time: 9AM-12PM; M-F

Juniors Program #1: The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
June 5-9 – Drama Games, Story Drama and Crazy Hats!

Description: Join the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and the Dormouse as they spin tales about their escapades in Wonderland. Fashion your own Mad Hatter hat and play fun drama games to kick off your summer of adventure. Show off your hats and tell your stories at an end-of-week showcase.

Time: 9AM-3PM; M-F

Juniors Program #2: Journey of the Rainbow Fish
June 12-16 – Story Drama, Movement and Puppets

Description: The Rainbow Fish is the most beautiful fish in the sea, and he knows it! But will his beauty make him happy? Using your bodies as well as puppets you help create, you will tell the story of the Rainbow Fish and all the fantastic sea creatures he meets on his journey, including the wise old octopus who shares the key to happiness.

Juniors Program #3: You Can’t Stop the Beat!
June 19-23 – Dance and Drama games

Description: Feel the groove as you learn two styles of dance to catchy songs from Theatre Aspen’s mainstage show Hairspray, and have a blast playing drama games that build your confidence. Then, show off your dance and acting skills at and end-of-camp showcase.

Juniors Program #4: Snoopy and the Red Baron
June 26-30 –  Singing, Movement and Creative Drama

Description: Take to the skies as Snoopy faces his old opponent, the infamous Red Baron. Using the power of song and physical expression, students will create a thrilling tale of heroism as Snoopy and his friends must face their fears and be clever enough to outwit the rascally pilot.

Time: 9AM-3PM; M-F

Juniors Program #5: Through the Looking Glass
July 17-21 – Singing, Dancing and Creative Dramatics + a performance opportunity

Description: Students will use the power of song and story to overcome their fears in this Alice in Wonderland-themed program. Choose the Performance Option, and students will get to appear on stage in the Musical Theatre Workshop production of Alice and Wonderland the following week. 

Optional Performance Opportunity: Students who add the performance option will get to sing their song in a fully-staged performance of the Musical Theatre Workshop production of Alice in Wonderland during the week of July 26-29. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, the student must attend the dress rehearsal of the play on July 26 (Morning; Time TBD) and may then appear on stage in costume with the cast to sing their song in front of an audience in one or more performances July 27-29. Performance Opportunity fee is $50.00. Students will get to keep a costume piece that they wear in the show!

Juniors Program #6: Mirette and the High Wire
July 31-August 4 – Story Drama, Character Games and Movement

Description: Mirette, a bright and courageous young woman, meets many wonderful characters at her mother’s boarding house. But when the Great Bellini, the famous tightrope walker comes to stay, both of their lives change forever. Using the wonderful children’s book as inspiration, join Mirette and Bellini to see to what heights your imagination can take you!

Juniors Program #7: You’re a Good Friend, Charlie Brown
August 7-11 – Story Drama, Masks and Movement

Description: Charlie Brown needs some cheering up. Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, Snoopy and his other friends try to convince him that he’s a good man, and teach him that it’s how you treat others that really matters. Using masks, physical character work and story drama, students will tell a heartwarming story at the end-of-camp showcase.

Pre-Teen Programs (Grades 3-6+)

Our Pre-Teen programs are designed to continue building on the students' love of creativity and collaboration, while introducing bona fide performance skills. A performative aspect is added to these programs, while still emphasizing the process of creation.

The Glee Factor: Legends of Rock!
June 7-16 – Eight Days of Singing, Dancing and Improv Comedy

Description: Imagine a stadium full of adoring fans screaming your name as you wail out monster hits! This summer, The Glee Factor takes on rock-n’-roll with songs from School of Rock the musical, as well as other classic tunes. Make new friends and learn fundamentals of performing, then bring down the house with dance, improv comedy and face-melting rock anthems at the workshop-style end-of-camp showcase.

Movie Star Camp - EMMYs
Rehearse, Act and Premiere in a Movie!
Session 1: June 19-23; Premiere Sunday, June 25th
Session 2: August 7-11; Premiere Sunday, August 13th

Description: Your EMMY™-award awaits! Experience the fun of starring in a movie! Students in the EMMY class (Grades 3-6) will learn the art of on-camera acting, improvisational acting, and script-writing while starring in a short professionally-produced movie. Developed by a former Disney and Nickelodeon producer, the curriculum this summer will focus on encouraging students to uncover their character's motivation while identifying their goals in each scene. Then, on Sunday, students are treated to a VIP, red-carpet movie premiere along with their family and friends at a real movie theater in Aspen. Each session teaches new skills with unique movies such as a princess tale, a musical, a sci-fi adventure, and more!

Musical Theatre Workshop: Disney's Alice in Wonderland
July 3-29

Description: Alice falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself in a strange new place. Her choices will determine her destiny as she makes new friends and outwits her foes to try to find her way home. Join Alice and an amazing cast of fantastic characters on her journey through Wonderland, and through your journey to make friends and learn the ins and outs (or should we say the Big and Small!) of putting on a musical. Featuring “Team Time” breakouts and skill-building workshops from visiting Theatre Aspen professionals, Musical Theatre Workshop provides one of Aspen’s best ways to learn the art of theatre while having a summer of friends and fun.

Time: 9AM-3PM; M-Th (no class on July 4)

Performances: July 27-28 @10am; July 29 @ 10am and 12pm at the Black Box Theatre.

Conservatory Programs (Grades 7-12+)

Our Programs for teens (grades 7-12+) focus on performance skills that are not only useful on stage or screen, but can bring a lifetime of enjoyment to the student, as they learn how they can bring joy to audiences wherever they may be. Some programs, like the Summer Conservatory Production, are audition only, while others are open to all interested students.

Summer Conservatory Production: Monty Python’s SPAMALOT
July 10-August 6 – Professional training in comic acting, dance and stage combat
with a touring production of Monty Python’s Spamalot.

Description: Who knew the Dark Ages could be so much fun! This year, students will learn comic acting in the style of Monty Python, along with stage combat and choreography workshops, all with a comic twist (see Professional Training Workshops below; included with Summer Conservatory Production). They will rehearse and perform a production of the Tony™ Award-winning Broadway smash SPAMALOT that will bring all the fisch-schlapping, coconut-clapping silliness on tour through the Valley and end up at Theatre Aspen’s Hurst Theatre. Professional Training Workshops
July 10-21 - Build your skills with industry professionals

Workshop #1: Broadway Dance – Exercise your fundamentals, while working on a fun choreographed showcase piece.  

Workshop #2: Sketch Comedy – Learn to deliver outrageously funny comedy with a straight face.  

Workshop #3: Stage Combat – Get training on hand-to-hand combat, and how to create a safe and convincing scene of comic chaos. 

Time: 9-10AM 10-11AM and 11AM-12PM, respectively; M-F; Showcase July 21

Tuition: $120 for each; Only $320 for all three*

*included as part of the Summer Conservatory Production experience

 

TAS Tech Company
July 17-August 6 – Hands-on Theatrical Design and Technology training

Ever wanted to learn how the magic happens? In this program, students will see what it really takes to pull off a theatrical production. The Tech Company will receive instruction in various design and technical elements such as costume/make-up, set, lighting, sound and/or props, as well as some practical hands-on training. Students will then get to help a show come together as they assist with the technical aspects during the run of our summer Musical Theatre Workshop production of Alice in Wonderland or our Conservatory production of SPAMALOT.

TUITION: $195; TIME 1-4PM, M-Th + Performances

 

Movie Star Camp - OSCARs
Rehearse, Act and Premiere in a Movie!

Broadway Dreams (All Ages)

Broadway Dreams Summer Tour - Come Together
June 25-July 1 – Intensive Workshops and a Revue with Broadway stars – for Dreamers of ALL AGES!

Are you ready for a challenge? Then Come Together for a fun and inspiring week and let’s make some theatre magic! Broadway Dreams Foundation returns to Aspen for its week-long musical theatre intensive.

As one of only 8 partner cities across the USA, Theatre Aspen School provides exclusive access to top-notch musical theatre training from the Broadway Dreams Foundation, with their faculty of well-known Broadway professionals. Students will be coming in from across the country to take part!

Throughout the week-long program you’ll audition in front of directors or casting agents, take classes from award-winning professionals in acting, vocal performance and dance, and perform alongside Broadway veterans and emerging local talent in a professionally-directed showcase. Participation in this program can be life-changing!

New students will need to submit an audition to be accepted into the Broadway Dreams program prior to registration.
