ABOUT THE SHOW

A family gathers to celebrate an engagement. Their dinner is interrupted by the arrival a Police Inspector, who begins asking each of them about a young woman who appears to have committed suicide the night before. At first, it seems there is no connection. But as the evening wears on, the truth unfolds as the family’s seemingly perfect existence unravels around them. Themes of individual and community responsibility emerge in this gripping mystery, complete with a shocking twist that will leave audiences guessing - and contemplating - for months.

Character Breakdowns

Arthur Birling – Family father-figure, successful businessman. Worked his way up from a lowerclass upbringing. Arrogant at times, but still able to appreciate the joy of having a good time.
Sybil Birling – Family mother-figure. She works hard to maintain her family's perfect image. She was born into a wealthy family. She can be cold, intimidating and strong-willed.
Eric Birling – Youngest member of the family, still trying to find his way in life.
Sheila Birling – The Birlings’ eldest child, recently engaged to Gerald. She’s her mother’s daughter in some ways, but not nearly as cold.
Gerald Croft – Family friend, recently engaged to Sheila. He’s a better fit to be Arthur’s son than Eric is, and that’s perhaps part of Shiela’s attraction to him.
Edna – the family’s maid. She’s lower-class, and knows her place.
Inspector Goole – an interrogator who comes to the house with a distinct agenda. We’re not always sure what his/her motives are, though s/he does have a knack for getting people to reveal information. S/He’s a figure who instantly commands respect from others.
